Shannon Del Monte Christy

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am a certified professional Electrologist practicing since 2007 and currently practicing in Mount Pleasant, SC.  I was formally trained at the American Institute of Education in Santa Ana, CA and find my training and education is a never-ending adventure. I enjoy learning from other Electrologists and teachers in my electrologist community.  I take great pride in providing a sterile working area, a clean and inviting studio, and as informative consultation as I possibly can.  I want you to know what I know and understand the process completely.  I also have great respect for your time and will make sure you are not kept waiting for your scheduled appointment.

South Carolina currently does not hold any Electrologist licensing requirements, which means there is no governing body ensuring the Electrologist has been trained in their profession; so please ask where your Electrologist received their training and how they maintain a sterile and clean work environment.

What Is Electrolysis?

A safe, permanent, method of hair removal, Electrolysis can be applied to just about any facial and body areas and is effective on all skin and hair types. Temporary methods of hair removal will often stimulate more unwanted hair growth. Laser hair removal is hair reduction, can be effective for large body areas, has faster session times, but is not permanent. Electrolysis is currently the only FDA and medically proven method of permanent hair removal and has been since the 1800’s…it has stood the test of time.

Electrolysis is a simple procedure that is performed by inserting a thin filament device into the hair follicle. A tap on a foot pedal sends a short burst of heat into the follicle cauterizing the growing part of the hair, known as the hair bulb or papilla. The destruction of the papilla seals off the follicle and thwarts any new growth of hair. The bulge is also destroyed preventing new stem cells from stimulating new growth. Electrolysis does take time as the hair needs to be present in order to be treated and hair grows in cycles.

What modality and machine do you use?

This is a question I am often asked especially for clients continuing treatment after they have moved from a different city or state. My answer is, I use the modality that destroys the hair follicle.  Each and every client is different. The hair, skin, past removal methods are all individual and I tailor treatments for what works best for the client.

Hair Grows In Cycles:

Any hair on the body that remains above the surface of the skin as healthy hair eventually sheds and begins to reproduce again with the action of the papilla and the bulge.  The hair growth cycle is anywhere from 6-14 weeks, depending on factors such as hormones, heredity, and your own personal growth cycle. Hairs that show above the skin within 6-14 weeks are NEW HAIRS. This is the reason it is so important to schedule regular consistent appointments, to treat new hairs within their growth cycle.
